This program is the therapeutic use of art making, within a professional relationship by people who experience illness, trauma or challenges in living and by people who seek personal development. Through creating art and reflecting on the art products and processes, people can increase awareness of self and others, cope with symptoms, stress and traumatic experiences, enhance cognitive abilities, and enjoy the life affirming pleasures of making art.

Students submit a baccalaureate degree (BA/BS) from an accredited institution. A cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. 12 quarter (9 semester) credits in psychology or a related field. A completed application file, which includes an interview. Official Transcript Please arrange to have an official transcript from the institution which granted student bachelor’s degree sent directly from that institution. Student official transcript must indicate that a bachelor’s degree was conferred. Student may also submit official transcripts reflecting other undergraduate or graduate level education. A minimum of 18 semester hour credits (or 27 quarter-hour credits) of study in studio art which demonstrates proficiency and disciplined commitment in art making. Equivalency of non-academic studio art experience or art therapy based course work may be taken into account. Course work and experiences using a variety of art materials and processes is imperative. Course work and experience should include at least drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture and 2-D design. A minimum of 12 semester hour credits (or 18 quarter-hour credits) of study in psychology, which must include developmental and abnormal psychology.
