The Joint MBA/MSF degree comprises 30 courses all together, with 18 courses from the MBA stream and 12 from MSF. In this way students are exempted from 2 courses for each of the MBA and MSF degrees. However no MBA (MSF) courses or electives credited towards the MBA (MSF) degree can also be credited towards the MSF (MBA) degree as this would be crediting a course twice. Each course can be credited to at most one degree. Further note that the 12 courses towards the MSF degree must come from the MSF stream and do not include any electives as the student is regarded as having taken 18 such electives already and the degree would no longer carry enough financial content to warrant the name MS in Finance. Also it doesn't matter in what order the student undertakes the mixture of courses from the MBA and MSF streams, only so long as the necessary pre-requisites are satisfied.
