Ashutosh
India
The US is a good place to do research leading to the Doctoral degree. I am currently pursuing my PhD at the Lehigh University. My dissertation is titled Advances in branch-and-cut algorithms for Mixed Integer Programming.
I did B.Tech (Hons), Production and Industrial Engineering at IIT, Delhi and had a GPA score of 8.10/10.00. There were no issues whatsoever during my selection process and travel to the US.
I was awarded the graduate research assistantship by the University.
I am studying theoretical and computational aspects of Integer Programming including branching, generation of valid inequalities, primal heuristics, search strategies, preprocessing techniques. I am also interested in theory and applications of Networks and Graphs, Combinatorial Optimization and Approximation Algorithms. My Thesis Advisor is Dr. Ted Ralphs and its a great experience to be working with him.
The facilities offered by the university are outstanding. I had the opportunity to work as a Systems Administrator and as a Teaching Assistant for a period of time at the university. I also worked as a Graduate Research Intern at Operations Research R & D, SAS Institute. Further, I had the occasion to publish papers and take part in Proceedings and Talks too. I gleaned a lot out of these experiences. I was made the Secretary of India Club at the University and that was good fun.
