There is no substitute for hard work! My advice to future students is, Be ready to work hard.
I took GRE and TOEFL and scored 1170 and 96 respectively. I did not take any coaching, although I hired a counselor whose name is not worth mentioning. I needed the students visa and the process was pretty cool and easy. I did an extensive research before I could get a very good group discount from Air India. I also got excess baggage from the airline. The airline was fair. I landed at JFK,New York. The University did not have a Meet and Greet program.
I have a RA and TATA scholarship from India.
I am not very happy with the structure of my program, compared to other universities. I came across professors who are extremely good at what they do and vice versa. The lecture halls are decent and the library is toooooooooo good!!
I live in University Housing - Most of the International students in SUNYSB stay in on-campus dorms. Though apartments are a bit old, the kind of housing offered in terms of cleaning and rest attention is awesome. Plus there are plenty of activities happening in the campus housing all the time. Part time jobs are not very easy. The night life and social scene is non existent .The winters are HARSH!! We have IGSA in SUNYSB .They organize Independence day, Diwali, Holi, Niagara Trip, Trip to 6 flags.
We have a placement cell but nothing in life comes easy here. Specially in todays environment when jobs are not easy to find. Trust me there is real good a competition here. Placement functions do not help much. Online applications to international firms help. Work permit is pretty easy and there is no alumini society in SUNYSB.
