The Massachusetts Institute of Technology admitted its first students in 1865. It is located along the Cambridge side of the Charles River Basin. MIT is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The various schools—School of Architecture and Planning, School of Engineering, School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, Sloan School of Management, School of Science and Whitaker College of Health Sciences and Technology—of the institution offer the different study programs. There are 6 campus houses at MIT which provide accommodation to the students.
